I have been blessed with a little bit of mechanical aptitude, therefore cars with a few miles don't scare me. I have purchased at least a dozen vehicles with in excess of 150,000 miles and I have been pleased with all of them. I once bought a F-150 with 340,000 miles. I drove it for 2 years and sold it for $1,000 more than I paid for it. What is the highest mileage vehicle you have purchased?

Ten years ago I bought a '91 VW Passat that had 212k on it. I only had it for a short time, but I donated to an aunt that needed a car and it worked mostly fine for them for a few years.

Bought my Cougar in 1998 with 146K on it. Transmission was brand new. Currently has 224K on it. Motor has been completely redone with oodles of go-fast parts, tranny has been overhauled and upgraded, rear end has a full locker and different gears, car has been repainted (and has to be again).

I think the only parts of the running gear in the car (to include braking and suspension components) that are original are the front a-arms and the driveshaft. I've replaced EVERYTHING else...... I just realized this. How astonishing.....

Still, that's a lot. And I thought the 300k on a Citroën BX diesel was a lot when my dad bought that in 2000.

My Jeep had 176k on the original motor and tranny when I bought it in May, new transfer case though. It's a Chrysler so it's got a bunch of little problems, but it purrs like a kitten and has never gotten stuck. Didn't think twice about dropping $500 on it.

A mid-80s Suburban we had read 70 when we got it (No idea how many times it had rolled over at that point but based on the condition at least once maybe twice). Rolled it over twice while in our possession. Odometer died reading 40 but we probably put on another 100 after that. It ate 3 or 4 transmissions, and the distributors liked to die constantly, but the 350 block just kept on trucking though a lot of abuse. That thing constantly was towing at or above its rating. Sold it in running condition for 500 bucks in 99.

'88 Silverado "Murder Wagon". 368k miles on it. Bought it from a co worker in '09 for $300. Spray painted the anarchy A on the hood, a jolly rodger with "Local hybrid- runs on benny blood and tears" painted on the tailgate, put a sticker of reagan with a swastika on his forehead and x's for eyes, along with a bunch of new and old NJ-NY-PA punk band stickers all over the back window, and installed a CB radio, and seats from a '99 Escalade. All original other than the seats. Sold it last year to another co-worker for $500. He still uses it occasionally, has 410K miles on it now. I miss it every single day.

92k on a 1999 A6. My first car, put 10k on her before I introduced her to a tree. Not a single problem otherwise. Not high mileage compared to the rest of ya'll though.

Bought a 1990 Audi 80 that had recently turned 200k, and it lived for a couple thousand miles for me. The only other car that really counts as high miles is the Subaru I just picked up with 184k on it. If it ends up that I need it long enough, I hope to pass 200 myself, otherwise I will just fix a couple things, make the paint nice again, and flip it. It runs like a top and sounds great for the miles it has.

I bought a 84 Prelude with 106,000 miles on it in 94. I hit a HUGE puddle when it had 118,000 on it and the Odometer and the Speedometer went out and could never get them to work again. Drove it for another 9 years...have no idea what was on it when I sold it. I replaced the dual overhead carbs and the clutch once but I was solid otherwise. God, I loved that car.

Nice! Carbed cars from the 80's seemed to end their own lives by about 100k. Way to keep one alive!

316,000 miles on a '96 Honda Civic, sounded like a diesel on the drive home. I just needed a good shell to drop my spare motor into. Fixed a dent in the front quarter panel, fixed a crack in the rear bumper, dropped in my 36,000 mile engine and sold it for ~$5k (I paid ~$2k)

I once bought an Isuzu pickup with 220k miles and it finally died with about 240k on it. I can't remember exactly because it was a decade ago and it was a $300 truck.

Then there was the White Trash Volvo. Bought from original owner for $600 in 2011. It was a bit banged up and I didn't know it had a bad head gasket. However, the trunk was full of spare parts, including door cards with intact plastic pockets and a whole set of headlights and taillights.

The odo read 176k but the guy said it hadn't moved since 1995. He had a service book with oil change and repair receipts. He said it was mainly his work car when he was in sales but he bought an S60 in 2000 and it has over 300k on it. He said his daughter drove it to college when he got the S60 and it was his spare vehicle.

Looking through the binder, it looked like it was serviced every 3-4 months. And judging by his tire receipts he was putting about 20-30k per year on it until 2002 — then the mileage slowed down because it was parked on a college campus for 9 months out of the year.

So it was likely near 300k when I got hold of it. I ended up selling it only a few weeks later because I didn't have the time or money to get the HG fixed at the time.

I still have a picture of it:

In 2008 I bought a 1991 Civic DX hatch 5 speed with 224,000 miles. I'm now at 362,105 miles. Original motor, clutch, and transmission. I've completely replaced the brakes short of the pedal and brake lights, the whole suspension, a windshield, driver side window regulator, "the big 3" wiring upgrade with new 4ga wire, two sets of tires, one idle air control valve, both fuel injectors, a fuel pump, two batteries, rewired the hi beams because they didn't work and rewire fixed them, valve stem seals (no more slow oil consumption and spark plugs stay CLEAN!!!), valve cover gasket, oil cap o ring, distributor, motor and gearbox mounts, and I think that's it. She runs spectacularly well now, getting 31 MPG city and 40-48 MPG highway depending on elevation changes, traffic, and weather.

Before that, I had bought my friend's '96 civic hatch with 450k miles for $100 and a ride to Navy boot camp. I abused the sentient feces out of that car all the way to 599,001 miles before I spun out and blew the head gasket, and crashed sideways at 70mph into a yield sign. It was on it's second engine, but I don't think that counts because the original engine was a lemon and was replaced by honda in 1997 with only 16k on the odometer.

Got my '96 Grand Am as a hand-me down, with 175K. It's my first car and I'm still driving it, currently at 200K with no signs of slowing down and zero engine repairs in it's 17 year history. The only repairs I've had to do were the transmission interlock system and the window motors. The 3.1 L82 V6 is known to last 300K + but it's fatal flaw is the intake manifold gasket. At this point it's only leaking coolant very slowly, so I'll just keep driving it as long as I can. She's still in better shape than most other mid '90s cars I see on the road.

I bought a very nice 2002 Taurus 24v 4 years ago with 160k on it. It was a used Verizon company car with a full service history with a lot of stuff replaced. Over the past 4 years...we put another 1200 bucks in various parts. It got tagged twice in parking lots....didn't fix the damage either time, so I pocketed about 2200 bucks combined from both times.

Selling it soon, if I get 1200 bucks, I'll be happy.
